Huynh Thanh Phong

Mr Huynh has over 22 years of experience in insurance, in North America, Asia and the Middle East. Most recently, he has been involved in private equity projects in Vietnam and Cambodia. Prior to this, Phong was a senior executive at Prudential plc, a leading global life insurance and asset management group. In Prudential, he held many key senior executive positions including Managing Director of Insurance, Prudential Corporation Asia and founding CEO of Prudential Vietnam Assurance Ltd.
As MD with Prudential Corporation Asia, Phong was responsible for the insurance operations in the markets of China, India, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Middle East as well as the consumer finance business in Vietnam.
As founding CEO of Prudential Vietnam, he grew Prudential Vietnam from into a company dominating the market with more than 40,000 staff and sales agents, 2 million customers, and a new business market share of 45%. Prior to Prudential, Phong had stints in Manulife (International) Limited and Crown Life Insurance.
Phong was recognised for his contribution to the UK financial services sector in Vietnam and was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2005.
Phong attended school in Edmonton, Canada and graduated from University of Alberta in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics). He is a qualified actuary and is a Fellow of both the Society of Actuaries (USA) and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
